How you can start being happy – by not expecting to be

Posted on .

So you want to be happy? Are you getting frustrated because no one is giving you attention? Does anyone care?

What the books of wisdom say:

If you want to be happy don’t expect anyone to think of you, understand you or love you. Everyone is busy and their attention, focus and energy might be engaged in their own preoccupations.

People might be with you one moment, but in the next moment they are caught up in their own thought spirals.

Attention, friendship and love are very uncertain, especially love, and it may come and it may never leave. But do not expect it to.

If you want to be happy, do not expect to be. You yourself must begin by giving love. Love exists first within yourself so why looking for it externally?

Wherever you go, whoever you meet, you will always have love in your heart, and there is no shortage of possibilities for expressing it.

It is not a question of loving one particular person but of experiencing love as a spring that asks only to burst forth, as a radiant energy that overflows and spreads to infinity.

When you discover that love is within you, you will no longer wait for others to love you.

How I try to be happy most of the time:

I am no longer expecting someone else to make me happy. I try to find happiness in every moment. And if the situation I am in at the moment, is not of happiness, I still try to find meaning even if the meaning is not obvious at once.

The most important kind of happiness is when I can give someone happiness, give love. The act of giving makes so much sense to me as my heart feels less burdened and sad when I do so. I try to give without expecting something in return. But I try to recognize people who want to exploit me and people who need help or love. I must also take care of myself, if I can make anyone else happy.

Does this make sense to you?

How do you stay happy?
