Is your love disinterested or self-serving?
Posted on .Love comes in different forms and each time someone inspires friendship or love in you, ask yourself if this love is self-serving or disinterested? What does this mean?
What the books of wisdom say
Disinterested love expects nothing in return. It is the kind of love that is about constant giving and makes others grow. And you find happiness in that others are happy. It’s does not create anxiety, clinging or disturbance. It takes pleasure in sharing without counting.
Disinterested love avoids doubts, distrust and arguments. It promotes and builds joy, beauty and hope.
Self-serving love is limiting, violent and seeks only to take. If disappointed it expresses itself through impatience, anger and resentment.
Aim for disinterested love as it opens up your own life and constantly makes others more free, stronger and happier.
How I give love to my surroundings
What I have learned is that I cannot control everything. But I can always wish the very best for everyone. The most fulfilling moments of my life are whenever I’m trying to listen to other people, and not try to force my opinions on them but rather help them find a solution by guiding them in the right direction.
If I truly care about someone I will do my best to help, no matter what they need. Just trying is sometimes enough to make someone feel cared about and loved.
I try to do this for all, but I can’t make everyone happy.
How about you?
